Alaska has a plethora of whitewater and scenic rafting possibilities, the state boasts more freshwater than the majority of the rest of the American states. With a little over 1 square acre per person in population density, it is not only possible, but slightly expected that you will not see another soul on your average wilderness rafting trip. While rivers like the Kenai, Tatshenshini and Alsek have become popular destinations for both fishermen and whitewater enthusiasts alike, there are more hidden gems here that have yet to be “discovered.”
Wrangell St. Elias National Park not only is the largest national park in America, but it is also home to some of Alaska’s most scenic and wildest whitewater rivers. With big water runs like the Tana, where fewer than 50 people descend its frothy stew each season, and the more traveled scenic Copper and Nizina Rivers, there is no lack of options for the private boater. Of course, the hardest part of enjoying the whitewater rafting Alaska has to offer is getting all your gear here, logistics can stop you dead in your tracks. That’s where McCarthy River Tours & Outfitters comes in! We offer all of our gear for rent, not only that, we also offer our firsthand knowledge and experience of our local rivers for your benefit.
What are some of the benefits of renting your gear from us?
- Great Gear
- All of our professional raft gear is available for rent. High quality self-bailing 14 & 15 foot rafts, fully stocked river kitchens that include all your cooking ware, stove blaster and propane, river toilets (essential for keeping a low impact, especially with the bear population), elevated firepans, sleeping kits and more. You tell us what you want and we’ll build your equipment list to suit your trip. Alaska rafting trips deserve top-notch gear!
- Professional Service
- All of our gear has been designed to fit on the small bush planes that serve as transport to and/or from the river sides. The thing about bush planes is they only hold so much stuff; on top of that, pilots can be picky on the shapes and sizes of stuff they load on to their craft. Pilots have relayed numerous stories of private boaters whose gear wouldn’t fit on the plane, or were made to re-pack all of their stuff on the airstrip, which is both a pain for them and the pilots. Our gear has been specifically designed to fit on the planes that service the rivers of Wrangell St. Elias; you will not have to fear that your gear is the wrong size or that it just plain won’t fit. Familiarity is a good thing to have with pilots, when they have loaded the gear before, they know how it generally fits inside their plane, not only easing your worry, but requiring less time to load and therefore less time on the runway and more time at the beginning of your wilderness adventure!
